Plex on OSX

Retraction: Plex is fantastic. Harmony Remote support, web scraping for video information all amazing. DRM iTunes videos please and we are done!

Virgin Media HD

I really like Virgin Media for TV choice and its great for Sky to have a competitor, but please for the love of content give us some HD channels!! HD is simply woeful on Virgin, and having the BBC channel and On-demand doesn’t cut it in 2009!

Front Row, Plex, Boxee

So I’ve been messing with a Mac Mini hooked up to the TV. Front Row is great for hooking into iTunes content, but its well documented episode sorting issues are annoying. Boxee is quite fun, although its lack of hooking into iTunes for the moment I find annoying (and I’m not overly interested in all the social/web content, except BBC iPlayer which has a cool interface in Boxee). Then there is Plex. It looks very nice, doesn’t have some of the Boxee features that I don’t want, but also lacks iTunes integration. Apple TV doesn’t do DivX, and I think the interface is a bit uninspiring. Also saw Windows Media Center on a big TV with freeview last week, very nice looking product, but...

Im still waiting for the Media Center holy grail as I don’t believe its here yet

** footnote: With plugins and add-ons etc I’m sure some of the issues I mention are either fixable, or I’m just plain wrong, but its my blog and these are my findings from a slightly half hearted Media Center dig around so far.

Canon 5D Mark II

Bought a new camera. The Canon 5D Mark II. Took some photos in Hyde Park the other week, and some of them are posted on automaticfocus.net. Will give it a better run out this weekend, but so far I am very impressed.
